While digging into tattoo art we continue to find amazing artists, inspired by traditional art techniques. We were in awe after stumbling upon Andrei Svetov and his strong graphic black ink art.
Andrei Svetov is Russian tattooist, working in Master&Tattoo studio. Like the name of the shop suggests, he’s a real master of tattoos. It is not easy to find modern interpretations of traditional etchings and Renaissance prints at all, never mind to find tats of this style. What makes Andrei’s tattoos so unique, is his preference to engraving techniques and symbolism.
Andrei Svetov style
You have probably seen his designs somewhere, but maybe never knew who was behind them. Andrei is one of the most recognized tattooists in Europe. Andrei is an exception to the rule since a lot of Russian tattoo artists relate to realistic tattoos.
In his designs, you will find depictions of animals and allegorical signs. Also, human figures wrapped with rigid geometric structure. Some of his favorite and repeating subjects are keys, crosses, and the images of sun and moon. Don’t forget the hexagons and the six-pointed star / also called the Star of David. One of our favorite themes is the architectural elements, such as the arches that he puts in his designs.
Andrei Svetov’s tattoos are mystical, keeping the original look of old book illustration. Back in the ages engravings were the only way to illustrate a book. In present days when everything is possible, Andrei transfers the tradition through his amazing style. His tattoos are very precise, every line and dot have their correct place. He usually uses only line strokes and dots to create shades. All his designs look like Medieval or Renaissance illustrations.
Andrei is very busy working, and to get a tattoo from him you must visit Kaliningrad, but it’s surely worth it. Meanwhile, you can start by looking at some of our favorite tattoos created by Andrei.
